Remote Raid Passes were “never intended” to dominate the experience.

Niantic’s hugely successful mobile title Pokémon GO has announced there are some changes coming to the game’s Remote Raid Passes early next month.

On 6th April 2023, trainers can expect price increases to Remote Raid Passes, new limits to the number of times you can participate in a Remote Raid per day (a maximum of five times per day), and various other Remote Raid adjustments. Niantic explained how it “never intended” Remote Raid Passes to dominate the experience:

“We can’t wait for you to experience it!”.

You might recall how the Sonic Mania developer Headcannon had some involvement in Sonic Origins. Now, following the announcement of Sonic Origins Plus, the “indie game and utilities” developer has confirmed it’s “once again” cooperated with Sega to this time update the project.

In a lengthy series of tweets, it explained how it helped put Amy in the spotlight, helped out with Knuckles in Sonic CD and was able to supply “a few additional updates and enhancements” to help make this collection the “best it can be”. Here’s this announcement in full:

“This is morally and physically exhausting for the employees”.

A recent investigation by NME has found reports of crunch culture and poor working conditions in game development at Ubisoft Paris following a similar allegation by the French trade union Solidaires Informatique last week alleging high rates of sick leave and developer ‘burn out’.

The report includes direct quotes from several developers on Just Dance 2023 and claims that Ubisoft Paris workers encountered a “mess” during the game’s production, with multiple unrealistic demands being set by studio bosses.

It’s remarkable how easy it can be to see the effects of developers’ genuine passion when playing a video game. In Kraino Origins—the product of one man, Angel Dorantes—you can just feel how much appreciation the dev has for classic retro platformers. Better yet, it turns out that he clearly understands what made the classics so great; Kraino Origins is a good time.

You take the role of the titular skeleton and are tasked with going through eight levels of spooky, scary action. Gameplay takes the shape of a typical retro action platformer, and Kraino is clearly inspired by many of the classics. There’s a little bit of Mega Man in here, a little more Castlevania, some Super Mario Bros. 3, but Kraino doesn’t feel overly derivative of such titles, largely because of its excellent level design. Each level is thematically distinct and introduces a few unique level gimmicks, such as conveyor belts or floating leaves, which are slowly built up into harder challenges over the course of the stage.

With the 3DS shutdown currently taking place around the globe, it’s now been confirmed by Nintendo’s Japanese website that this title has been partially shut down.

Switch takes only three spots in the top ten.

The latest UK boxed charts data is here and this one paints a slightly quieter week for Nintendo amidst some tough competition.

Continuing its triumphant return from last week, Super Mario Odyssey has managed to improve on its previous numbers and this time manages to land in seventh place thanks to some remaining MAR10 Day sales and the recent Switch bundle.
