“This is morally and physically exhausting for the employees”.

A recent investigation by NME has found reports of crunch culture and poor working conditions in game development at Ubisoft Paris following a similar allegation by the French trade union Solidaires Informatique last week alleging high rates of sick leave and developer ‘burn out’.

The report includes direct quotes from several developers on Just Dance 2023 and claims that Ubisoft Paris workers encountered a “mess” during the game’s production, with multiple unrealistic demands being set by studio bosses.

No themes AGAIN?!

It’s now been over six years since the Switch launched globally back in 2017. Naturally, our thoughts are beginning to drift over to what could potentially come next from Nintendo. Will the company’s next major hardware be a simple evolution of the Switch itself, or will it be something completely new?

We could hypothesise for days on what the next console could potentially look like, but to debate what might go wrong with it, our pals Felix, Zion, and Craig (Pure Xbox) have put together a video to discuss every little annoying niggle that could potentially burn their toast.

“What is your business here?”.

Konami has filed a trademark for ‘Project Zircon’. Spotted yesterday by Gematsu and filed on 7th March, we know absolutely nothing about what this means, but it’s got some people thinking.

As Gematsu mentions on Twitter, zircon has very few connections to the company in general, but there is one that’ll be of interest to us (and this writer especially) — zircon is a jewel that you can sell for a pretty pitiful amount of money in the Castlevania series.

Speakachu.

It’s no secret that Ash Ketchum and Pikachu will soon be leaving the Pokémon anime for good, capping off a storyline that has lasted for the best part of 25 years. Despite being in the company of these characters for so long, it turns out that there are still some notable aspects of each that we didn’t know, like, for example, that Pikachu was originally going to speak… like a human (thanks, Go Nintendo).

Ok, maybe not exactly like a human, but definitely like Team Rocket’s Meowth (which is still a whole lot wider vocabulary than we would want to hear from Pikachu).

Nintendo’s presence at PAX East 2023 will instead be focused on “competitive play activities” – with more details about this to be revealed at a later date.

“It’s exciting to see that demand is still there”.

While the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom might just be the most highly-anticipated video game of all time, the announcement that the title would cost $70 on release opened up the conversation about how much we are all willing to pay for a game in 2023.

Doug Bowser, the head of Nintendo USA, has recently defended the price point of the Breath of the Wild follow-up in an interview with AP News, in which he reaffirmed the company’s stance that this is not Nintendo’s standard pricing going forward and all games will be judged on an individual basis.

Porygon-B.

The Pokémon Company International opened up a new job listing for a Corporate Development Principal a few days ago, and it looks like the position requires the candidate to have a grasp of Web3, including blockchain.

The listing was spotted on TPCi’s Greenhouse page (via LinkedIn) where all of the company’s job listings are posted, and caught the attention of many Pokémon fans online thanks to @pory_leaks on Twitter. Initially, the job description seems harmless, with the role specialising in corporate strategy, relations, and development and innovation. But in the ‘What you’ll bring’ section, it seems one of the requirements is that the successful candidate is knowledgeable in the world of Web3.
